.

The school was built in the late19C on this tight, inner city site. Much of the accommodation is situated on the upper floor. The issue of access was solved by remodelling parts of the existing building and installing a lift. This ensures that anyone with disability can now gain full access to all parts of the building.

This school had a poorly located and ill-defined main entrance, located off one of the main play grounds. A new entrance was created on a different side of the school overlooking the main access road with an extension to accommodate a main reception.  Here all visitors enter into a secure and welcoming space before passing into the school.

A modern composition was developed to give a contemporary feel to the building but without conflicting with the original Victorian architecture. A steel framed structure gives lightness to the design and allows generous windows to be used with a cantilevered flat roof to support a green roof.

Other areas of the school were remodelled to create a new staff room and main office.
